ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc.

ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Wakefern Food Corp., the largest supermarket cooperative in the United States, has recently opened four locations the Capital Region totaling over 255,000 square feet. The New Jersey based company offers a broad array of groceries, including fresh produce and meat, as well as locally sourced products. ShopRite also offers a wide assortment of prepared foods including fresh salad bars and hot food options for dining in or taking out. For the convenience of the customers to grocery shop online, ShopRite from Home will have their orders ready for pick-up at designated locations within the stores.
The project consisted of the acquisition of a 58,564 square foot building within the former St. James Square, the demolition and removal of existing fixtures and equipment, and the renovation and reconstruction of the existing building for the first ShopRite supermarket in upstate New York. This location also features four 240-volt charging stations for electric cars, paying homage to the local Electric City.

Construction of a 65,000 square foot ShopRite connected to a tandem 20,000 sq ft OTB building started after the acquisition of 7 parcels of land, consisting of approximately 5.5 acres and the demolition of the former OTB building. and the installation of necessary fixtures and equipment. Site improvements included a 557 car paved parking lot (shared with OTB), curbing, outdoor lighting, general landscaping with green area and misc., off-site development includes installation of a traffic light along Central Avenue.

Development and Construction of a 65,000 square foot ShopRite, along with the installation of necessary fixtures and equipment, during the first phase of the Vista Technology Park. The building has a separate “ShopRite from Home” and parcel pickup with designated parking spots.

This project consisted of the demolition of the former Otto Cadillac site, with the development and construction of a 70,000 square foot ShopRite supermarket along with the first ShopRite a gas station in the area on site (14 fuel pumps). The newest store in the area features the latest in energy-saving technologies in refrigeration as well as environmentally-friendly LED and T-8 lighting systems. The store also features the “ShopRite from Home” service and a Wi-Fi lounge. Electric car charging stations in the front of the store are specially-marked.

Branch bank with a two-car covered drive-thru features aluminum clad windows, gable style roof with asphalt singles and accent peak louvers, exterior insulation finish, fiber cement board siding and trim and an aluminum storefront entry system; The interior features the “teller pods” which Berkshire has been using with their newer buildings

Panera Bread Company

As the Albany Medical Center’s presence in the community grows, so too has the need for goods and services in the surrounding neighborhood. To answer that call, the Panera Bread Company sought retail space in the new medical/retail complex Columbia developed at 50 New Scotland Avenue. The facility is a leased property, housing medical and administrative offices and retail space, and is adjacent to a parking facility.
The structure was completed in September of 2011 within budget and on schedule.

QuickChek is a premier convenience store chain throughout New Jersey and New York’s Mid Hudson Valley, and remains the market leader in food service and fast fuel retail operation. Columbia Development partnered with QuickChek on six locations so QuickChek could expand its market well into New York’s Hudson Valley.
Most of these partnerships resulted in 7,200 square foot retail centers featuring a coffee bar, sub shop, café dining section, and 12 gasoline fueling stations. Some locations include a detached touchless car wash facility.
Located in the heart of the city of Kingston, NY and close to the New York State Thruway, the 159 Albany Avenue site cleaned up a prominent corner, replacing an old automobile service station. This premier property offers excellent visibility as one of the finest retail locations in the downtown business district of Kingston. This store has a “silent screen” absorptive acoustical barrier above the HVAC units, four underground fuel storage tanks, ample parking space and an indoor/outdoor seating area.

Rite Aid Corporation is the leading drugstore retail business across the country, with a particularly strong presence in communities both large and small throughout the State of New York.
Columbia Development is the preferred developer for Rite Aid in upstate New York, in part, for its elite project management team that focuses on providing cost effective solutions, and for its reputation for meeting deadlines and working within budget.
Columbia Development provided financing for these projects, and leases the buildings to the Rite Aid Corporation.
